About Patrick Porter

Senior Visiting Fellow

Patrick Porter is professor of international security and strategy at the University of Birmingham. He is also Senior Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, London. He researches the interaction of power and ideas in the making of foreign and defense policy in the U.S. and U.K, and in shaping their conflicts. His most recent book is Blunder: Britain’s War in Iraq (Oxford University Press, 2018). He has also written articles in International Security, the Journal of Strategic Studies, International Affairs, Security Dialogue, Diplomacy and Statecraft, and War in History. He has appeared as an expert witness before the parliamentary Defense Select Committee, the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, and the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy. His doctorate is from the University of Oxford.
